Staying True to your Dreams

Sat 6th Apr 2019 - 2:52pm : Gaming

Is it any wonder that so many people are being attracted to the eSports space? I mean, it is pretty cool to be a professional gamer. Getting paid to play games and live in a gaming house with all your gaming buddies. How did these people get to be in that position? What does it take to stick to your guns and peruse a career in eSports? How do we actualise this dream? What does it take to live the dream? I’m going to be delving into exactly how to create your esports aspirations, by rising to the top in a particular niche market within esports, because of course, you don’t have to be a player to get satisfaction and earn a living playing games. You don’t have to win to be recognised and make a difference to the industry.

Games are fun right? Well no, not if you want to be a professional gamer. The top professional gamers have very little emotion invested in the game. This is because emotions cloud judgment and the senses. So, if you are looking for a fun career in esports as a player, your looking in the wrong space. Esports is deadly serious with hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line. People get carried away with their emotions, romanticising being able to be a professional gamer, when in actual fact, it takes a whole lot of hard work and dedication, playing for many hours each day can cause physical and emotional problems. It’s no wonder some professional gamers have attempted suicide and gone on killing rampages. It’s because it is not all it’s cracked up to be if you are looking for the easy streets, don’t try and become a professional gamer. There are many other ways to interact with and grow the eSports industry without being a player exactly.

The way people become professional gamers is by dedicating themselves to one game day in and day out until wining becomes second nature. People just don’t fall into being a professional gamer. I know people say it takes practise but it’s more than that. It is obsession with the game that produces results. These players play like 12 hours a day sometimes which is completely crazy, but hell, that’s what it takes and it isn’t for everyone. Even when you are holding that major trophy, was it really worth all the time and energy spent away from family? Don’t try and become a professional gamer unless you are willing to make sacrifices that you may indeed come to regret!

Friends? Forget friends. Family? Forget family. School? Forget your education. It is just you and the game now and you have a deep thirst for success on the highest level. You want to drink from that cup of glory? Forget your life and dive into the cyberworld of limitless sacrifice and endurance. The more you sacrifice, the more you will win. Its simple, professional gamers are loners, some have personality problems and find it hard to relate and talk to people.

Give up everything you hold dear. Restrain your emotions. Dedicate yourself. Believe in yourself. Don’t look up to anyone. Make your own rules and bend the ones that are already there to your advantage. Take every moment as it comes and reflect on your mistakes. Don’t back down from challenges or give your opponent the opportunity of understanding your play style. Become water and fit into whatever play style you need in the moment. Never give up and never back down or accept defeat.

If you are lucky enough to be picked up by a successful franchise. Stay dedicated to your team and your country. It’s easy to get lost up in the hype and in the dream to win big, which can lead you to become unfaithful and disloyal. You really think the best players and teams in the world are going to want to play with you if you change teams ever 3 months. No, make commitments with good judgement and time taken so you are prepared for any major decisions and forks in the road that may arise from being at the top level.

If you would rather not be a player at all, which is probably a good choice in my opinion. There is a plethora of opportunity to make big dollars and contribute significantly to the eSports scene. Get known. Be recognised by being loyal. Build your skills by volunteering in the fields you are good at. Do courses and build your knowledge. You need to understand that you don’t need to win to be successful in the eSports scene. A lot of it comes down to commitment, personality and being unique and thorough. If you take the same kind of dedication and commitment into being an esports professional, learning as you go, nothing will stop you from becoming the bright shining light that paves the way for revolutionary change in the way the industry is structured and the way competitive games are played.

Stay hungry gamers! Good luck.
