Why Low Fat Diets Will Fail Every Time
Low fat diets have been hailed as the great savior for dieters since about the time Cinderella Solution of Dr Ancel Keys in 1953 who postulated a link between saturated fats and cardiovascular disease. From there his ideas steadily grew until we were being told that a diet with high levels of saturated fats would cause heart disease and worse. Steadily the link between diet and cardiovascular health was established.
It was in the late 1970's or early 1980's when the diet industry came up with the notion that something was making us fat and that something was FAT! Big surprise but bad science. In time "science" came to the party with the fact that a gram of carbohydrate contained 4 calories and a gram of fat contained 10 calories. Obviously if we ate less fat, we would get slim - right? Wrong! For at least a decade we have been bombarded with the fallacy that low fat food would make us slim whilst the nation grew steadily more and more obese. What looked like a slam dunk has turned out to be a turkey. But a turkey that makes "diet" food manufacturers a fortune each and every day of the year, There are other factors at play here we need to consider before we adopt a low fat diet and hope we start losing weight.
